A landmark legal case, brought by Citizens UK, Islington Law Centre and Bhatt Murphy Solicitors, has ruled that three asylum-seeking children and one dependent adult currently stranded in Calais can be reunited with their UK-based family members and have their cases heard in Britain.
Stephen Hale, Chief Executive of Refugee Action, said:
“Justice has prevailed. Refugee Action is delighted that a British Court has ordered that three children and a dependent adult, currently marooned in Calais, are to be reunited with their families and have their asylum claims heard in the UK.
“This ground-breaking decision demonstrates that the UK government cannot shirk its moral and legal obligation to ensure protection to some of the world’s most vulnerable people, many of them children. This judgement will set a precedent that must be applied to other people separated from their families by conflict.”
